Psalm 55:16-18

But I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me.

For all we know, the prodigal is right in the middle of the greatest battle of their lives. Not only is the outside world bombarding them with negativity but the enemy is coming against them as well. Even their own selfish thoughts tend to consume them. One sincere cry to God in a time like this and He will reach out and save!

I pray the prodigal is making that plea and that God already has the enemy on the run, ransoming them unharmed from the battle of this day.
